It ended up having to come out in pieces (which my fiance, the only other person around at the time, said looked like white hamburger), but it didn't really hurt until the doctor got to the core part of it. After it was all out, the doctor stitched me up and prescribed some pain medicine.

Since Tuesday night, I've been taking it easy at my fiance's apartment (where I've been staying part-time). As I was nervous about the stitches coming out from any bending over that I did I had opted to take both yesterday and tomorrow off from the Doggie Bag. I slept in later than normal yesterday and today (like shortly before 11:30 am yesterday and just barely before 11 today), but given the circumstances, I didn't really feel so bad about it.

I didn't really know what to expect as far as my energy levels or anything like that were concerned, but I think it was mostly Tuesday evening and maybe part of Wednesday when I was out of it. But today, I was able to do a few things like make coffee in the morning, catch up on the dishes, make some tea in the afternoon and chat with an old friend on Facebook.

Overall, I think the recovery is going over okay. Hopefully, it will continue to go well the rest of this week.
However, our afternoon cashier had another commitment so I was the one in charge of the register for the full day.

There were some clothes that had been priced and ready to put out, so I started off with that. I was able to tag a few clothes during some of the slower moments as well. (However, as business picked up further in the day, I was needed on the register more, and someone else that came in later in the day took over on the tagging.)

We did get some clothing donations throughout the day. And at some point, someone donated a lot of audiobooks (as well as a few regular books). I was able to get those priced and put out.

The manager made it in during the afternoon and brought her dog (a big white one) with her once again. It turns out that the dog likes to lay in the display window, so she did that off and on (including "supervising" me when I was trying to clean the window). The dog also walked up to a couple of customers to get their attention. (She's a very friendly dog.)

The next day I go in is Monday. I'm hoping I'll get a lot accomplished then since I'm not going to be available to them for the remainder of the week on account of my surgery on the Tuesday which I'll be recovering from for the remainder of the week.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-73794360583469440902012-03-14T19:25:00.000-07:002012-03-14T19:25:22.639-07:00Today at the Doggie BagInitially, the manager's intern and I made it our business to get as much clothing moved out of the back room, tagged, priced and put out as possible up until shortly after the manager got in, but per the manager's request we backed off on that due in part to the racks filling up.
So, for the rest of the day, I focused more on getting non-clothing items moved up from the back room to the front. There were a few tuppaware pieces to be washed and electrical appliances to be tested.

A couple of interesting things that came in today were a green electric can opener and a green toaster. (There was another toaster that was donated today; it was a regular metallic one.) I tested them and they both worked. One of my colleagues was interested in the toaster so from my understanding, that is being reserved for her to pay for and pick up at a later date.

It's my understanding that, sometime on Friday, we'll be getting a piano donated. I look forward to whatever else Friday brings.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-37698339683502567932012-03-13T12:49:00.001-07:002012-03-13T12:50:28.193-07:00Got a Lot of Clothes Out YesterdayYesterday at the Doggie Bag, the big priority was to get as much clothing that is appropriate to sell at this time (like no shorts or tank tops as of yet) as possible transferred from the back room, tagged, priced, and put out. There were also some clothes that had to be weeded out due to their condition or some other reason, but between me, the manager, and three other people on duty, we were able to get quite a dent in the pile. (I know we at least got most if not all of the jeans that were awaiting us moved out of the back.) I'm thinking that, barring anything else that comes up, the clothes will still be my main focus tomorrow.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-8228307471710268442012-03-08T08:34:00.000-08:002012-03-08T08:34:49.665-08:00Having Surgery Later This MonthSince somtime this summer, I've developed a lump in my lower back. As far I can recall, nothing tragic triggered it. It just occured one day and slowly got bigger. However, for reasons I'm not going to go into here, it wasn't until earlier this week when I was able to have it looked at.
It turned out to be something called a sebaceous cyst. More can be read about that kind of cyst here. It's not overly serious at this point, but it's one of those things where the sooner it can be dealt with, the better.

I was able to secure an appointment for the last Tuesday of this month (barring anything unforseen of course) to have it removed. As far as I know, it'll be a minor outpatient kind of surgery. I've never had any kind of surgery before so I wouldn't know anything about recovery, but I'm guessing after it's done I'll be taking it easy for a day or two and avoiding heavy lifting.

I'll let you all know if the date of the surgery changes and how the recovery process goes when the time comes.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-31975906995426508392012-03-03T12:42:00.000-08:002012-03-03T12:42:29.493-08:00Finished the Move YesterdayThursday and yesterday, I helped my fiance move from the apartment he had been living in that had been storm-damaged Tuesday night to the one he was able to obtain on Wednesday. We got done sometime between three and four in the afternoon if I recall correctly. (That's not bad given the fact that 1) he had until five pm to get the old place cleaned out and 2) it was just the two of us yesterday.) The only thing that was not salvagable was a bookcase that was water-damaged and as a result fell apart while being transported. There are a few boxes and what-not to get unpacked, but the most important stuff (such as the food, the furniture, and the appliances) are in place.

That's what I've been up to lately. Hopefully, nothing drastic will happen in the coming week.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-77243284288773846512012-02-29T17:07:00.000-08:002012-02-29T17:07:14.280-08:00Hometown Got Hit Last Night...Sort ofThere was a storm in my hometown last night, complete with a temporary power outage and a tornado warning. We didn't get hit by a tornado, but part of the town got hit by the storm. The north end of town, where I'm still living with my mom and stepdad, including the houses, got off easy compared to the south end, closer to where my fiance lives.
For instance, sometime after the tornado warning had come and gone, my fiance called me and told me that building he had been living in had been damaged and part of the roof was gone which could've potentially posed a problem for some plans we had for the weekend. (When he had called, I initially thought that perhaps part of the building was mangled, but the damage was more along the lines of cracked walls, sunken in ceilings, etc.) It also turned out that some businesses were damaged or at least still didn't have power. (The latter included the office where my mom works.)

Today was one of the days when I'd normally be doing my volunteer work at the Doggie Bag (which as far as I knew before heading out was still standing and had its power) from ten to four (store hours), but per my fiance's request this morning, I instead met up with him at his cousin's place (where he was staying for the time being from my understanding). Before heading over though, I did make sure that only other person that would be on duty today and authorized to open would be in a position to do so today. She said she was and if anything had gone over there earlier to make sure the store still had its power, which it did.

After I met up with my fiance, he and I talked for a little bit. Then he and I walked over to the compound where he has been living. We got to the leasing office, and he was able to get an apartment in one of the non-damaged buildings. After that, we went and got some lunch and then moved a few things (mostly clothes and food items) from the apartment he had been living in to the new one. (And as it turned out, he was not the only one moving either.) After he decided to hold off on the rest until later and rest in the new place, I went and got a few things from the old apartment and brought them over. I ended up having more time to spare that day than I thought, so after I had said goodbye to him, I headed over to the Doggie Bag to help out for two and a half hours before closing time. It was mostly clothing that was being dealt with today. I may or may not make it over there on Friday which is another one of my regular days, depending on how far along my fiance is on the move and whatever else comes up.

I'm going to see him again tomorrow. Hopefully, he will get more stuff moved and be less stressed about the situation (which, understandably, he had been today).Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-67481089018251317812012-02-23T09:43:00.000-08:002012-02-23T09:43:41.512-08:00Got the Manuscript Typed UpYesterday I mentioned that I was in the process of transferring a handwritten copy of what my fiance had of a book he had started a couple of years ago to computer. I had hoped to get it done last night, but it got late and I got tired when I was working on it.
Well, I continued with it this morning and now I'm finally finsihed. The next steps will be to edit it to the best of my ability, possibly print it out, and give him feedback on where the story should go from where it has stopped so far.

I've got a little under two and a half hours or somewhere thereabouts before he comes over. I think in a little bit, I'm going to have a little lunch, do some things around the house and go from there.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-1850004389646255912012-02-22T17:27:00.000-08:002012-02-22T17:27:52.602-08:00Where I'm at on Life's JourneyI know I've been further behind on my blogging than ever before. While I wouldn't say this is the only reason, part of it has to do with the amount of time I've been spending with my fiance. (And no, we have not set a date yet.) Not only am I spending more time with him just in general, but he and I are co-authoring a novel together to go with a video game that he and some friends of his are in the process of developing. Barring unforseen circumstances, we'll be having meetings every week to discuss the novel. (By "we" I mean me, my fiance, and his friends, including a cousin of his that lives in town.)

I'm still volunteering at the Doggie Bag. We have a bit more help now than we have had for a while (including increased availability of two of the regular staff members) plus the donations have slowed down a bit so our back room actually looks pretty good. Also the manager's new intern (who joined us either earlier this month or sometime last month if I recall correctly) has gotten the window display set up for St. Patrick's Day, which features mostly green items. As far as stuff on sale is concerned, the way it stands right now, coats are 1/2 off and men's shirts are buy one get one free.

When I hop off here, I'm going to finish typing up the handwritten version of a book (or what exists of it so far) that my fiance had started a long time ago when he was still in the military and recovering from an injury. We had started doing that sometime in January (his idea at the time) but put that aside for a while. I'm going to see about finishing it up so that it's done by the time I go over to his place tomorrow so that it will be one less thing to worry about.

That's where I'm at for now. I'll try to resume writing here regularly.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-77798580383073748372012-01-05T11:45:00.000-08:002012-01-05T11:45:03.476-08:00Doggie Bag UpdatesI know I've fallen WAY behind on these lately. I don't know why although there were a couple of days when, after my shift was up, I'd go and see my fiance.

Anyway, in the past month we had been selling Christmas items. (Even though Christmas is already over, that hasn't stopped people from donating items pertaining to Christmas.) As it stands right now, they're half off. Our adult pants are currently buy one get one free. And also, a person can get up to five toys for free if they buy something else.

Some days have been busier than others. There were days like the day after Christmas where we'd get off to a slow start in the morning, but then business would pick up in the afternoon. The day after New Year's was one of our slower days. Yesterday, however, was SO busy. Not only did I have a lot of sales to ring up, but we got TONS of donations on that day. I was able to get some of them marked and put in their rightful places, but I ran out of time before I was able to get to all of them. Hopefully, someone else has been able to pick up where I left off. I think barring anything unforseen, my goals for Friday will be to get some clothing put out (and maybe in the afternoon when someone else takes over on the register, transfer some from the back and tag it) and straighten things up throughout the day as time allows.

We did have a Christmas display in the window for a while, but it was taken down on Monday and Tuesday. (I was able to take most of it down per the manager's request on Monday but ran out of time before I was able to get everything. All I had left was some lights on the lattice work, lights and a star on the tree, and the tree itself. Presumably that was taken care of on Tuesday.) Now, it consists mainly of some eye-catching clothes. (Yesterday, a customer asked me to check the sizes of a couple of skirts in the window that caught her attention, but it turned out that neither one was the size she was looking for.)

I may be doing these updates less often than I have in the past, especially if it's been a long, tiring day. (And besides, I have other things to deal with at this time.) But I'll be sure to get to them when I get the chance.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-44992224191930239782011-12-02T07:11:00.000-08:002011-12-02T07:11:40.467-08:00Doggie Bag Days Season 3: Days 92-93Lately, I've been making my business to go in early enough to take care of things that I could not the minute that it's time to open, such as checking the situation with the change and getting some if needed, steaming some clothing that has turned out to be wrinkled, etc.

On Monday, when it was still early enough in the morning, I was able to run the steamer on some clothes that I was unable to on Friday due to timing. However, there were two shirts that I was unable to get to before time to open up and man the front of the store. I think that day, during the slower periods, I put out some Christmas stuff, did some straightening, and transferred some clothing from the back room to the middle room. If I remember correctly, I think business-wise, things were slow in the first half of the day but picked up in the afternoon.

On Wednesday, I steamed the couple of shirts that I had been unable to on Monday and transferred some clothing from the back room to the middle room. My strategy for that day was to basically tag as much of the clothing on the pricing rack as possible and go from there. It would've been either before or after tagging that I had put priced clothing out. I ended up setting aside one skirt to be steamed today. I'll either do that before time to open or when our afternoon cashier comes in. After I finished tagging the clothes, I pretty much focused on straighening things up as, again, time would allow. The manager was in just in time to close up shop and took care of balancing the register for the day. (It was one of our slower days as far as business was concerned, but I was able to get quite a bit done, I think.)

Unless there turns out to be a bigger priority at hand, I think my plan for today is going to be steam the aforementioned skirt whenever I'm in a position to, and from there, put out whatever clothing has been priced if it hasn't been done already by anyone on duty yesterday and when the afternoon cashier comes in, transfer more clothing from the back to the front and tag that if time allows.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-41926260360538661122011-11-25T15:24:00.000-08:002011-11-25T15:24:12.016-08:00Doggie Bag Days Season 3: Day 92Today was my second Black Friday on the working end. But since there was generally someone else to cover the register, I took care of some other things throughout the store.

I had come in early in order to take care of a few things, one of which was to check the situation with the change. The manager and a few colleagues came in when I was doing that. I went to the bank, which was only a block away to get some change.

When I returned, I hung up and tagged some clothes that had recently come in. Eventually, the manager priced them, and I put them out. Today, the manager opted to have a buy one get one free sale on clothes, but I don't know if it was only for today or not.

The other things I did today were put out some books and some video tapes, help get a Christmas tree set up, put out some Christmas decorations, sweep the entryway outside (since there were leaves on it), and transferred some clothes from the back room to the middle room and tagged those, setting aside a few that appeared to need steamed. I ran out of time before I got to that part today, but that can be one of the things I do on Monday before time to open.

Yesterday, my fiance had said he'd maybe stop the store for a bit today. He showed up within the last half hour of my shift and was there for the remainder of it.

That's been my day today. I think my goals for Monday will be to steam up clothes that need to be steamed, put out some books (if shelf space allows) and straighten things up throughout the store. One of the things I did was transfer some clothing from the back room to the front. However, I ran out of time before I was able to get it tagged.

On Monday, we had more clothing to put out so I tagged some of that. I think business wise, that day had started out slow but then things picked up in the afternoon.

On Wednesday, I put out clothing and Christmas cards. We've also started a display of trinkets for a quarter. There were some that were already a quarter and some that got marked down to that so that they could be moved out. We also got more Christmas stuff out.

In a little while I will be heading out for my second Black Friday on the working end of it. Last year, I was mostly in and out of the back room throughout the day, but I might be on the register at some point today. If that's the case, then I'll be more of a witness as to how things go business wise.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-21076873789474119592011-11-16T14:55:00.000-08:002011-11-16T14:55:30.788-08:00Doggie Bag Days Season 3: Day 88I went in a bit early today in order to take care of some things that I otherwise would not have been able to, such as vacuuming the carpet in the front part of the store.

When I wasn't busy on the register, I tagged some clothes. When I finished doing that, I mostly tried to straighten things up throughout the store. Because the manager wasn't able to make it today (family emergency) I took care of closing the store at the end of the day.

Things were busy off and on throughout the day. I won't go into how much we made today, but it was a lot. I'm hoping when I go in on Friday that we will be able to get more clothes ready to go on the racks to be sold.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-50083695608392820662011-11-16T06:51:00.000-08:002011-11-16T06:51:02.540-08:00Doggie Bag Days Season 3: Days 86-87I know I keep falling behind on these.

I was on register pretty much all morning on Friday. I don't remember everything I did in the morning when I wasn't dealing with a customer. I think I mainly straightened things up and maybe put a few things out. In the afternoon I tested some strands of lights. On one spool there were only one or two strands in which all the light bulbs worked. I had trouble separating the working strands from the non-working strands, but since the the lights in question were old anyway, I ended up throwing most of them away.

On Monday, I was on register pretty much all day. It was one of our slower days overall, but I'm sure that things will pick up later in the month. One of the things I did in the afternoon was transfer some of the more casual slacks in the mens' section over to the jeans section per the manager's request. After all, the jeans section needed fleshed out, and the slacks section needed thinned out. Also per her request, I transferred some mens' shirts over to our current quarter rack which had been accommodated some ladies' tops.

Those have been my last two days working there. I'm thinking I'm going to try to go in earlier today than I normally do so that I can get some things done before actual opening time that I am unable to do when the store is open, especially when there are customers present.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-55720244686401269562011-11-11T06:42:00.000-08:002011-11-11T06:42:08.895-08:00Doggie Bag Days Season 3: Days 84-85I was on register pretty much all day both Monday and Wednesday. I think on Monday I discarded some clothes that did not make the cut, dusted a table and did some general straightening as time allowed.
On Wednesday, I had a customer or two right when I opened. There were customers coming and going almost nonstop that day. But in the moments that I was not busy with a customer, I tagged some clothes, whited out some used tags, and attempted to straighten things up throughout the store. A couple of hours into my shift my fiance (yes fiance; more on that in a later post) showed up and was around for the remiander of my shift. He did help with a couple of things such as taking a donation to the back room, getting some freed up hangers back there, and around closing time, getting some stuff that was in the entryway outside back in.

Those have been the last couple of days that I had been there. I wonder what today will bring.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-60293825795129909682011-11-07T07:05:00.000-08:002011-11-07T07:05:49.315-08:00Doggie Bag Days Season 3: Days 81-83I had expected Monday to be one of our busiest days as it was Halloween and perhaps people would be doing whatever last minute shopping for that at that time. However, according to the manager, most people probably would've gotten their last minute shopping done on Saturday. Monday had turned out to be a slow day salewise. However, that didn't really bother the manager as it had been a pretty good month as it was.
It was on Wednesday that we started scrapping whatever was left of our Halloween display including any costume pieces that we still had and putting them away for next year. Other than that, whenever I wasn't busy on the register, I tagged some clothes and straightened things up throughout the store (or at least attempted to anyway).

I think it was Friday when the Christmas display for the window was done. One of the volunteers that normally came in on Tuesday and Thursday mornings was pretty much in all day to help with said display. I was pretty much on register until sometime in the afternoon when someone else was in to take over. Otherwise, I mainly straightened things up throughout the store as much as I could and thinned out the hat section, getting rid of any that weren't in very good shape and/or were too summery, and put out some clothes.

That was my week last week. I'm thinking today I will likely be putting out more clothing and taking care of some general straightening during the slower periods unless there turns out to be a bigger priority at hand.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-86534161335563699722011-10-28T16:18:00.000-07:002011-10-28T16:18:59.642-07:00Doggie Bag Days Season 3: Days 77-80This is probably the furthest behind I have been on these Doggie Bag accounts.
Last Friday was the day when the world was supposedly supposed to end. I was on register until someone else came in and took over on that area. So for the remainder of my shift, I mostly tried to straighten things up.

Clearly, Friday came and went without the world ending, so I was able to work my shift on Monday. I was on register almost all day. I think when I wasn't busy with customers, I put stuff out and/or tried to straighten up displays. That's pretty much all I remember about that day.

On Wednesday, I was on register until someone else came in and took over on that. While that person was on register, my boyfriend had come in to see me. I stepped out with him for a few minutes (with clearance from the manager to do so). He stuck around during the remainder of my shift (after which he walked home with me, but that's another story). While he was talking to one of the people I was working with (and who was tagging the clothing), I transferred some clothes from the back room to the middle room (since some of the clothing racks needed fleshed out), sorted through a bag or two, and sorted the written tags from the blank tags.

Today, I was on register again until later in the afternoon when someone else came in to cover that. So, for the remainder of my shift, I put out some clothes, steamed the wrinkles out of a few clothes that needed it, put some Barbie dolls that had come in into a bin, sorted through some socks, transferred some clothes from the back room to the middle room and tagged those.

So yeah, the last four days have been busy. We have our costume section still, so given that my next shift will be on Halloween, there might be people who will be buying their costumes (or anything else Halloween-related for that matter) at the last minute. We'll just have to wait and see.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-90851338480121847772011-10-20T18:04:00.000-07:002011-10-20T18:04:59.143-07:00Is the End of the Road Near? This is something I'd normally put on my blog, Moderate Mouse's Musings, but since this blog is more or less about where I've been on life's journey, and the end of the world, should it occur tomorrow according to a certain prediction would mean the end of said journey, I think I'll post it here.
According to various Christian websites, the end of the world is tomorrow. Yes, these are the same people who had predicted that the Rapture would occur on May 21 of this year (because that worked out SO well). This particular site has a timer counting down to the end (which would seem quite antithetical to various parts of the Bible that say that nobody knows the day OR the hour in which Christ shall return). According to said timer, I can expect the world to end just before 5AM my time. That's an hour before my alarm normally goes off. Thus, according to that timer I could not expect to get up in the morning to do my usual day at the Doggie Bag and then go see my boyfriend at night as the world will end before any of that happens.

But let's say they have the day right but not the time. In that case, there's still a chance for me to do my hours at the Doggie Bag in the day and go see my boyfriend at night. And if Friday comes and goes without the world ending, I can continue on with life and whatever may lie ahead.

I might be back in tomorrow or Saturday. We'll just have to wait and see.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-70436833177124084742011-10-19T20:16:00.000-07:002011-10-19T20:16:14.879-07:00Doggie Bag Days Season 3: Day 76Today, I was on register for all but maybe one or two hours. If I wasn't dealing with customers, I was straightening things up, tagging clothes, putting white out on tags, or putting stuff out. It was a pretty busy day.
Sometime this afternoon, when I was on register, my boyfriend showed up and bought a few things. This is the third time I've seen him in the store at a time that I was on duty.

We were a bit late closing up on account of some last minute customers. I don't know exactly how much we made in the afternoon, let alone for the whole day since I was not the one that configured those totals, but for the back half of the day, I had run out of room on the front half of the sheet we use to write down sales totals and had to use the back to account for the last two of the afternoon. (The last time I had run into this situation was roughly a year and a half ago when I was the cashier on duty on a Saturday morning.)

That's been my day today. Who knows what Friday will bring?Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-85663007408492498282011-10-19T07:26:00.000-07:002011-10-19T07:26:41.748-07:00Doggie Bag Days Season 3: Days 73-75Once again, I'm falling behind on my accounts for this.
We've cut back on our operation hours a bit. Whereas we used to be open until six Monday through Friday and until four on Saturdays, we're open until four on all of those days. As a result, some of my colleagues' schedules have changed.

On Wednesday, I was on the register for an hour or two at most. The rest of the day, I mostly dealt with clothing, whether it was hanging it, putting it out, or putting it in a recycle bag. (That's the sort of thing I normally do if someone else is covering the register.) That day went by pretty fast.

Friday was one of my full days on the register though I think that's supposed to change as of this week. Something that really surprised me that day was that it turned out that we have had so many donations pile up that we have had to take a hiatus from accepting any more. Hopefully we'll be more caught up soon. In the afternoon, when I wasn't busy with customers, I tried to make the store more presentable, but I ran out of time before I was able to do everything that I had tried to do. I also ended up being the one to close that day.

On Monday, I was on register almost all day. Since I'm now authorized to open the store if need be, I went in a little early in order to attempt to straighten things up in case a bunch of customers came in the minute that the store opened. We had gotten off to a slow start in the morning, but business really picked up in the afternoon.

Those have been my days so far. I'm hoping a lot will get accomplished today.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-71628130899902341562011-10-10T19:58:00.000-07:002011-10-10T19:58:53.422-07:00Doggie Bag Days Season 3: Day 72Today wasn't our best day salewise. We did however, have a lot of donations come in throughout the day, including clothes, shoes, toys, purses and a lot of other stuff.
Throughout the day, when I didn't have a sale to ring up, I did things like straighten up various displays and price items according to the manager's specifications.

Other than that, I don't really have anything to report, I'm afraid. Maybe more will happen on Wednesday.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-35354222071616286142011-10-10T06:53:00.000-07:002011-10-10T06:53:27.058-07:00Doggie Bag Days Season 3: Day 71The day had started out pretty good. I was on a roll straightening up some displays that needed it and I sold a lot of stuff and made a lot of money in the first half of the day.
Then, within the last hour or two of my shift, I made a mistake that overshadowed all of that and made it into a bad day. I won't go into details here, but it got me in trouble with the manager, and during what was left of my shift, my composure was shot out of guilt for letting her down, and I started crying. (Luckily, the manager had left before that happened, and as far as I know, not many customers, if any, noticed. I did explain my wrongdoing to a couple of people on duty though.)

I'll be heading out within the next hour for my usual Monday shift. I'm really hoping that all has been forgiven and I can redeem myself this week.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-19864475157635563982011-10-05T15:12:00.000-07:002011-10-05T15:12:52.133-07:00Doggie Bag Days Season 3: Day 70I was on register in the morning as usual. Today, we finally started setting up our Halloween merchandise (some of which was bought later in the day).
In the afternoon, I brought some stuff up to the front for our early afternoon cashier to price, and then I put it out. It was pretty much a few boxes of random items, such as glassware, electronics, etc. There was even a set of cloth diapers.

Within the last hour of my shift, someone that used to work with us stopped by. There were some items we had held onto for her, but she had second thoughts on them, so they were put out. She did donate some bags of planting bulbs, though.

It was a pretty busy day. No doubt it will be busy on Friday as well.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-519975573760413994.post-22885677650804151232011-10-03T14:53:00.000-07:002011-10-03T14:53:36.691-07:00Doggie Bag Days Season 3: Day 69Because of certain things we are trying to accomplish, we had to close the kids' room temporarily in order to use it as a work space.

We have gotten so many purses this weekend that the respective section was super-crowded. So once, again, we're selling purses for fifty cents indefinitely. I did what I could to make the section more presentable, including pulling purses that weren't in very good shape.
I also put stuff out and had to move some items from the table next to the register to some other tables in order to make room for Halloween decorations.

It has been a busy day off and on. There was scarcely a moment in the afternoon when we did not have customers coming and going. It'll probably be busy this month depending on how much Halloween stuff (including costumes) we have up for sale.Moderate Mousehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14889172303312524950noreply@blogger.com0
